Some thoughts according to the AMA(American Medical Association):  Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish can help to reduce blood pressure, lower pulse rate, and improve cariovascular activity.  Eating fish also reduces strokes and helps people maintain mental clarity.  For pregnant and nursing mothers, fish intake is important.  DHA found in fish improves brain development for those precious babies!

  • I had no idea about the abstinance issue of Fridays. I only thought of it during Lent but it does make sense. I do remember my parents and grand-parents talking about not eating meat on Fridays. In fact in upstate New York there is still advertised Friday fish fries at restaurants, pubs, social clubs and churches.

  • Excellent feedback. Also for the friday abstinance issue, you can consult the issue in Canon law of the Catholic Church. Here is an excerpt:

Can. 1250 The penitential days and times in the universal Church are every Friday of the whole year and the season of Lent.

Can. 1251 Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the Episcopal Conference, is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
