Certified meatless was created to designate foods and consumer products as completely devoid of landed slaughtered animal meat and their by-products. In this present day marketplace, it is nearly impossible to differentiate meatless foods from ones containing meat and their by-products without in-depth research of the composition of ingredients. Certified meatless or CMLO guidelines follow the dietary requirements of pesco-vegetarianism. Pesco-vegetarians abstain from the consumption of slaughtered landed animals and their inherent by-products. Pesco-vegetarians consume vegetables and fruit products, dairy and egg products obtained from live, humanely kept animals, and fish/seafood products. Keeping the Faith. These dietary guidelines are also in accordance with the dietary concerns of Catholic and Orthodox Christians during periods of Lenten observances and abstinence as prescribed by religious authority and tradition.
